We here at Coats and Jackets Love Patagonia

Not only do they produce stylish and functional clothing but they give a shit about the environment, and for that they deserve our utmost respect. And we think that everyone should give a shit about the environment, don’t you?
Patagonia’s Torrentshell Jacket is made from 100% recycled Nylon face fabric that is Bluesign approved. If you aren’t aware of Bluesign, they are an organization, based in Switzerland, that unites the complete textile supply chain to reduce its impact on both people and the environment. They promote eliminating substances that pose a risk to people and the environment, while also uniting the textile supple chain to become responsible of their use of resources and protect the safety of people and the environment. Important stuff I think you will agree!! For more information of the work that Bluesign do head over to their website here.

We know it’s good for the environment but is it good for you?

Performance wise this jacket will not let you down. The Nylon is H2No standard design, meaning it has been tested for waterproofness, breathability and durability at Patagonia’s very own Fabric Lab. It has a 2.5 layer outershell, to keep out the worst rain showers mother nature can throw at you. The jacket packs away neatly into its own internal pocket meaning it’s great to keep in the boot of the car for when you are out and about and the weather can be it usual unpredictable self.
It has a two way adjustable hood(on top and at the neck) to keep you dry when the wind is blowing the rain horizontally, and the laminated visor rolls down and stows, which means you can hide away the hood when the winds blowing but the rains eased off!!

There is an underarm pit zip for ventilation, the neck has a microfleece lining and there are drawcords at the hem of the jacket and at the neck and top of the hood to give your head extra protection when the weather turns sour.
Have a look at the video below outlining all the details the jacket incorporates.

We have good for the environment, we have performance, what about style?

Its one thing being good for our future generations, and having high performance and functionality but if it looks crap we aint going to wear it, are we?

Thankfully Patagonia don’t let us down here either. The jacket is a simple classic design, with a nice funnel neck, and comes in a range of colours, perfect for complimenting the rest of your outfit.

What about value for money?

With a jacket like this, with the functionality and features in the design, I would think it’s fair to say £110 offers excellent value for money, I would happily pay more for this jacket. The nature of the British weather means you could be wearing this jacket any day of the year, giving you fantastic value for your hard earned cash!!

Take my advice, do your bit for the environment, and head over to Aphrodite or End Clothing and buy yourself one of these torrentshells, you won’t be disappointed.

  1. Hello Jeff,

I just recently discovered your blog, and I really like it. It seems that you really want to help people, and I appreciate it!

This particular jacket looks nice and comfy. I like that it doesn’t contain any animal products (fur, leather). And also the fact that it’s made from recycled nylon makes it much more appealing.

    Thank you for nice review!
