Stone Island is as much a science laboratory as a fashion label. Started in 1982 by Massimo Osti, his research into uniforms and work clothing that stretched back to the mid seventies, led him to creating a hub researching various materials and treatments.
The name itself came from a study of Joseph Conrads novels, looking for the most occurring words, giving us the name Stone Island.
In 1983 Osti wanted to concentrate on the creative side of the business and decided to join forces with Gruppo Finanziario Tessile. This is where Carlo Rivetti, a shareholder in the group, entered the scene. And the label is as much about him as it is about Osti.
Technology and Style are both at the forefront in Stone Island design. Designs have a military and marine feel, with the badge of a compass rose on the arm looking like a military badge.
Stone Island has been a staple label on the terraces for many years, but has managed to be exclusive enough not to go mainstream.
Stone Island is available from the following online stores.
