Canada Goose started life as Metro Sportswear Ltd, a company started by Polish immigrant Sam Tick in 1957 in Toronto Canada. Metro made woollen vests, raincoats and snowmobile suits before manufacturing down filled jackets.
Sam’s son in law David Reiss joined the firm in 1972. Metro focused on manufacturing custom down-filled coats and heavy-duty parkas for the Canadian Rangers, city police, the Ontario Provincial Police, municipal workers, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Correctional Services.
In the early 80’s David Reiss purchased the firm from Sam. In 1985 the down filled parkas were officially registered under the name Snow Goose. In the early 90’s when they started selling them in Europe the name Snow Goose was already registered so they chose the name Canada Goose.
Canada Goose manufactures a wide range of jackets and parkas designed for extreme cold weather. Some Canada Goose jackets also use coyote fur on the hoods and are usually filled with down sourced from Hutterite farmers across rural Canada.
